Progress in investigations to bring justice to journalists presented

#GobiernoDeMéxico.- At the head of the presentation of the progress report on actions to bring justice to journalists and human rights defenders who are victims of crimes, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reiterated that, unlike previous governments, this administration does not promote aggressions against them.

«I am not going to get tired of saying it because that is the difference: before, crimes had to do with the State; the main violator of human rights was the State, now it is not like that,» he remarked.

In a morning press conference, the Undersecretary of Security, Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, announced the progress of the investigations into the cases of murdered journalists.

He highlighted that the Secretariats of Security and Citizen Protection, National Defense and the Navy, as well as the National Guard and state prosecutors’ offices carry out joint intelligence work, which has resulted in arrests and the fulfillment of the commitment of zero impunity.

So far this year there have been six crimes against journalists; 16 people have been arrested and charged for their probable responsibility in the crimes.
