High-level meeting with the U.S. boosts use of Space Technology for Civil Protection and Environmental Care

#SecretaríaDeInfraestructuraComunicacionesYTransportes.- The Mexican Space Agency (AEM), a decentralized agency of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), received a visit from the Under Secretary for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES) of the U.S. Department of State, Monica Medina.

Given the need to strengthen actions for the civil protection of the population of our regions, especially in view of the increase in frequency and intensity of hurricanes and other hydrometeorological phenomena, it was emphasized that environmental actions against climate change require bilateral cooperation with the support of space and satellite technology.

Mr. Medina thanked the warm reception and expressed his interest in working together with the AEM on current and future projects, as well as promoting space education for women and girls, and the use of satellite technologies for environmental and meteorological issues.

For these objectives, and after Mexico’s adhesion to the Artemis Agreements, the importance of projects with NASA, called AzTechSat Constellation, Climate Change Observatory OMECCA, and with the oceanic and atmospheric agency of that country (NOAA), with the useful satellite systems for civil protection GOES and GEONETCAST Americas, among others, was highlighted.
