#EstadoDeBajaCalifornia.- In order to promote the integral health of women deprived of their liberty, the Baja California Penitentiary System (CESISPE), through the Directorate of Social Reinsertion and Post Penal Services, carried out the «Zumbathon» at the Mexicali Penitentiary Center.

Commissioner Ma. Elena Andrade Ramirez affirmed that at CESISPE, sports is one of the allied axes in the social reinsertion process, necessary to provide an integral physical and mental wellbeing, as established by the National Law of Penal Execution and the instruction of Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda, to generate new mechanisms to provide better living conditions.

She said that Zumba is a combination of discipline and the pleasure of dancing, which has been accepted by women deprived of their liberty to exercise and compete in the «Zumbathon».

She added that the exercises, together with the rhythm of the music, make a combination of healthy and rhythmic movements, providing those who practice them with the special pleasure of dancing and the benefit of exercising.

She pointed out that sport changes the state of mind, as well as physical and mental conditioning, and is an important tool for the interpersonal relationships of the inmates, and the Zumbathon fully complies with these characteristics, which is why its practice has been promoted in the prisons.
