President López Obrador receives at National Palace the King and Queen of Sweden / @lopezobrador_ @GobiernoMX >>>

#GobiernoDeMéxico.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador led the official welcoming ceremony forCarl XVI Gustaf and Silvia, King and Queen of Sweden, at the National Palace.

Accompanied by Dr. Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, the Chief Executive received them in the Courtyard of Honor, where the official anthems of both nations were sung and the official photograph was taken.

The ceremony was attended by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, and the Swedish Minister of International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Johan Forssell.

Previously at a morning press conference, President López Obrador explained that the purpose of the visit was to discuss culture and strengthen the friendly relationship. He said that the king and queen will board the Mayan Train to visit the southeastern region of the country.

«We are very pleased that he has decided to come to Mexico as head of state and heads of state, presidents and prime ministers are welcome,» he said.

The president added hours earlier that the visit included a tour of Diego Rivera’s murals inside the National Palace.

«They are intelligent, educated, generous monarchs and they are our visitors, and we are going to take care of them,» he said in the Treasury Room of the National Palace.
