#SECTUR.- Participating in the inauguration of the 52nd Ibero-American Congress of Chambers of Commerce, organized by the Mexico City Chamber of Commerce (Canaco CDMX), presided over by José de Jesús Rodríguez Cárdenas, and accompanied by the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City, Nathalie Desplas Puel, and the President of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), Francisco Cervantes; among other authorities and business leaders, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) detailed that, in 2022, this niche represented an average per person revenue of 850 dollars per national event and 2,219 dollars per international congress, while the average expenditure of the conventional international tourist was 450 dollars, contributing 1. 5% of the national GDP.
This segment also generated an average of one million direct and indirect jobs, equivalent to 1.8% of the country’s total employment, and 4.2% of employment in the services sector.
Meeting tourism is of great importance and currently there are 105 venues in Mexico, with a capacity ranging from 100 to more than 20,000 people, equipped with the latest technology and first class suppliers; Mexico is ranked 27th in the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) ranking, with 136 congresses reported in 2023.
Torruco Marqués recognized the importance of the business meeting, in which the Ibero-American Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Services (AICO) and the Inter-American Commercial Arbitration Commission (CIAC) also participate, bringing together more than 250 presidents of various business chambers from Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, Portugal and Hispanic communities in the United States.
