#SRE.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) and the Ministry of Health, through the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris), announce that Mexico will host the XI Pan-American Conference for the Harmonization of Pharmaceutical Regulation (CPARF).

The conference, which will take place at the Foreign Ministry’s headquarters in Mexico City from August 21-23, is a platform to promote access, regulation and production of medicines for the benefit of the entire region. It will also coincide with the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Pan-American Network for the Harmonization of Pharmaceutical Regulation (PARF Network).

During the meeting, the results and challenges faced by the Americas region in achieving regulatory convergence and harmonization will be analyzed, and mechanisms to accelerate the integration of supply chains will be discussed in depth. The adoption of homologated standards for the safety, quality, efficacy and performance of medical products will be positioned as a public health priority, since the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the differences and inequalities that exist between the region’s regulatory systems, which impacted trade, the integration of supply chains and the health of communities.

The harmonization of health regulation is essential to ensure equitable access to medicines and health technologies. In this regard, adopting strict safety, quality and efficacy standards facilitates the integration of supply chains and productive capacities to guarantee access to medicines and vaccines throughout the continent.

The PARF Network, created in November 1999 by the national regulatory authorities of the Americas and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), has become the ideal forum for achieving these objectives. This initiative promotes the processes of harmonization of pharmaceutical regulation, adapting to national and sub-regional health realities and policies.
