Sectur strengthens Mexico’s tourism with 145 new Green Angels units / @TorrucoTurismo @SECTUR_mx >>>

#SECTUR.- Also accompanied by the general director of Tourist Services of the Green Angels, José Armando García Nuño, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) emphasized that, in an unprecedented effort and under a scheme of close collaboration with state governments, this administration will be doubling the number of units, to achieve a vehicle fleet of more than 500 new units, which will be equipped with air conditioning and satellite locator linked to the Geointelligence Center.

«This work contributes to improving the working conditions of the Green Angels’ most valuable resource, the human factor. Now, they can offer a more efficient, timely and permanent service» he mentioned.

Torruco Marqués pointed out that for 64 years, the Green Angels have been providing free roadside assistance and tourist orientation to users of Mexico’s highways and other roads, and have become an indisputable national benchmark.

However, he pointed out that the Green Angels were «abandoned» for decades, with faded uniforms, despite being Sectur’s calling card, with units in the junkyard, and others in poor condition, averaging 850,000 kilometers traveled; as well as an operating system with a 20-year technological outdatedness, aspects that prevented them from offering a service up to the standards of a tourist power such as Mexico.

The Secretary of Tourism pointed out that since the beginning of the current administration, and following the philosophy of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, of making tourism a tool for social reconciliation, Sectur set itself the task of rectifying the deficiencies and limitations of a corporation that is a key element for Mexico’s tourism activity and that was on its way to extinction.
