#Ecatepec, #Edoméx.- The government of Ecatepec, in coordination with personnel from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), kicked off the Firearms Exchange 2024 campaign, which seeks to contribute to the prevention of violence and crime, informed municipal president Fernando Vilchis Conteras.

The mayor informed that through this program, about 1,61 firearms were collected in 2023, including 323 flintlock and feather type weapons, 16 handguns of permitted calibers, 3 short ammunition, 1 long sporting weapon, 7 gas grenades, 709 cartridges, 1 rifle and 1 weapon without capacity to detonate.

He reiterated that the “Voluntary Disarmament” Weapons Exchange program will be held within the municipal territory until August 24 at the municipal esplanade of San Cristobal Centro and at the Los Arcos subdelegation, in the Granjas Valle de Guadalupe neighborhood; while in the second week the module will visit the main square of San Andres de la Cañada and the Lineal Park located on Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta Avenue in the Potrero del Rey neighborhood.

Vilchis Conteras indicated that as a result of the coordinated work tables between authorities of the three levels of government for the Construction of Peace in Ecatepec, it has been possible to reduce the incidence of crime in the municipality.

He said: “Today we are kicking off this 2024 weapons exchange, it is a great sign that the armed forces allow us to carry out this activity every year; there are people who have some cartridges in their homes, some weapons that have no use, and we have noticed that some families make their exchange, they earn some resources and also help us to have a more harmonious municipality in the prevention and proximity scheme at the local level”.

For his part, Rubiciel Santos Campos, Infantry Colonel of the General Staff, agreed with the mayor, as he considered that one of the priority activities for all governments is the security of citizens.
