#SRE.- The National Institute for Women (Inmujeres), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), held yesterday the meeting «Agrarian Justice for Rural and Indigenous Women» with the purpose of reducing inequality gaps in the agrarian field.

The event brought together women from ejidos and communities from different states with the objective of identifying and developing public policies and actions that guarantee the full exercise of their agrarian rights, promoting their development and autonomy, as well as fair access to land ownership.

The meeting was headed by the president of Inmujeres, Nadine Gasman Zylbermann; the undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of the SRE, Joel Hernández García; and the national officer of Gender and Human Rights Programs of UNFPA, Dosia Calderón Maydon.

In her speech, the president of Inmujeres, Nadine Gasman, indicated that rural and indigenous women have a fundamental role in their communities, because they preserve biodiversity, are administrators of natural resources, defenders of the territory and domestic workers who contribute to the sustainability of life. However, women face multiple inequalities that limit their life projects and decision-making.

“The idea is to bring justice to all women, so that they own land, can choose and be part of the agrarian participation bodies, have access to social programs and financing under the same conditions as men,” she stressed.
