#ISSSTE.- The Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (Issste), through the ECOS para el Bienestar (ECOS for Wellbeing) strategy, offers free of charge to the entire male population, whether or not they are beneficiaries, the new no-scalpel vasectomy sessions, which will be held on August 29 and 30 in medical units of the institution, with the aim of promoting universal and quality access to sexual and reproductive health.

This procedure is a simple surgical technique, does not require hospitalization, does not affect sexual performance, and does not represent any harm to health.

The Issste Medical Directorate reports that 842 patients have benefited from January to June. It indicated that this practice is part of the Mexican Government’s strategy so that all people, regardless of their age, schooling, social level, sexual orientation, ethnicity or culture, can have access to prevention services related to sexual health.

This type of operation is 99.7 percent effective against unwanted pregnancies. However, it does not prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs), such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), human papillomavirus (HPV) and other health-threatening diseases. Therefore, the institute recommends people who have unprotected sex to opt for this definitive method of family planning and maintain the use of male or female condoms.
