#ISSSTE.- Taking care of sexual health, preventing unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are human rights that the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (Issste) guarantees through free family planning services to the entire Mexican population.

In the framework of World Sexual Health Day, which is commemorated on September 4, Issste reports that it provided a total of 360,211 family planning consultations to members and the general population from January to June, in which 180,523 anti-fertility methods were provided.

The head of the Health Care Quality Department, Marlene Maury Rosillo, explained that sexual health is the right to exercise a healthy sexual and reproductive life, ranging from access to education to quality medical services.

“The population can go to any clinic to receive information on sexuality, whether or not they are entitled to it; it is like vaccinations.”

The specialist pointed out that, during the adolescent stage, which runs from 10 to 19 years of age, it is very important to know basic concepts of sexuality, such as menstruation and physiological changes in both sexes.

From January to June, through the Amiguissste service -a space specially designed to offer sexual and reproductive health care to adolescents- 93,725 consultations were given and 52,253 contraceptive methods were provided.
