#EstadoDeMéxico.- The Government of the State of Mexico, headed by Mrs. Delfina Gómez Álvarez, through the Secretary of Water (SAGUA) met with representatives of the three levels of government to give continuity to the State Water Plan and the Seven Regional Water Plans.

At the meeting held at the Center for Sustainability Incalli Ixcahuicopa (CENTLI), Pedro Moctezuma Barragán, Secretary of Water, explained that the priority of the new water management in the Mexican territory is to guarantee and conceive this resource as the Human Right that it is, in addition to promoting practices that respect its natural cycle.

He indicated that continuing with community efforts is fundamental, since they are the ones who throughout history have defended the vital liquid and an example of this is that thanks to community participation, the Sierra Nevada Region, which covers 1,470 square kilometers of the Amecameca River, La Compañía and Tláhuac-Xico Lake basins, already has a plan in place that can be updated for its improvement.

In order to avoid possible problems affecting the 125 municipalities of the State of Mexico, the Water Plan of the administration of Mrs. Delfina Gómez Álvarez leaves aside the extractivist model to give way to the water collection and catchment system.

In addition to the water program for the Valle de México Sur region, those for the Valle de México Norte, Pánuco, Lerma, Cutzamala, Amacuzac and Ixtlahuaca-Atlacomulco are also in the process of being structured, so it is important to disseminate them and ensure their compliance.

Members of the Tláhuac-Xico project’s Citizen Comptroller’s Office also participated in the working groups, and extended an invitation to take part in the upcoming third Caravan for Water.
