#SRE.- The V Inter-Ministerial Meeting of the Commission on Follow-up to the Observations of the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Commission) was held on September 9 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), headed by the President of the National Women’s Institute (Inmujeres), Nadine Gasman Zylbermann, and the SRE’s Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, Joel Hernández García.

The purpose of the meeting was to present the achievements of the CEDAW Commission over the last six years, as well as the main aspects of the Beijing Platform for Action 2024 Report and the X CEDAW Report.

In his speech, Undersecretary Joel Hernández emphasized that for Mexico the CEDAW Convention is a fundamental instrument because it offers a clear and solid framework for the design and implementation of public policies aimed at eradicating all forms of discrimination against women, young women and girls. She also shared that the next federal administration, led for the first time by a woman, will have two reports that highlight the convergences between the national and international agendas.

For her part, the president of Inmujeres, Nadine Gasman, affirmed that the creation of the CEDAW Commission in 2018, as an agreement of the National System for Equality between Women and Men, addresses the recommendations that the CEDAW Committee made to Mexico in response to the IX Country Report before that Committee.

“The Commission constitutes a mechanism of articulation between the three orders of government to comply with the 73 recommendations of the CEDAW Committee, with important achievements in terms of legislation, justice, violence and attention to indigenous, migrant and refugee women,” she remarked.

Likewise, Gasman Zylbermann emphasized the need to continue advancing in the political participation of women, the eradication of poverty, the care agenda and gender violence in order to achieve substantive equality and non-discrimination.
