#SECTUR.- “Such is the relevance of these destinations that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, in recognition of their culture, values, nature and biodiversity, issued instructions to establish October 5 as the ‘National Day of Magical Towns’, through a presidential decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation,” he said.
Torruco Marqués pointed out that, under his tenure as head of the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR), 56 new appointments were added, giving a total of 177 Magical Towns, which have a population of 10,700,000 inhabitants, representing 8.5% of the country’s population.
He also pointed out that they are home to 77,215 economic units related to tourism, which provide employment to 300,260 people.
He mentioned that income from the supply of goods and services is in the order of 197,300 million pesos, which represents an annual average per economic unit of 2,555,000 pesos.
He mentioned that the Magical Towns and Neighborhoods are treasures of our nation that we must take care of, protect, preserve and strengthen, that is why Sectur, from 2019 to date, has been engaged in their beautification, through the strategy “Magical Routes of Color”, which consists of painting the facades of homes, as well as artistic murals, in which the essence of these unique tourist centers is projected.
He commented that, despite the pandemic, at a national level, from 2021 to date, Magical Routes of Color have been applied in 57 Magical Towns, 6 Magical Neighborhoods and 16 municipalities, painting a total of 10 thousand 158 facades of homes and 7 thousand 753 square meters of artistic murals, and we will continue to do so until the last day of the present administration.
