#IMSS.- The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), through the Medical Benefits Directorate, implements various strategies in the care processes nationwide in order to have safe and quality medical processes that improve patient safety, with the aim of limiting or reducing avoidable damage during medical care.
The head of the Medical Quality Division of the Technical Coordination of Medical Risks, Quality and Patient Safety, Sergio Valencia Castro, emphasized that the Institute has a wide range of regulations and has defined through norms, procedures, guidelines, guides and healthcare protocols for acting in the healthcare process.
On the occasion of the commemoration of World Patient Safety Day, he stressed that the IMSS adheres to the sectorial regulations that declare the implementation of Essential Actions for Patient Safety, published in the Official Gazette of the Federation.
He reported that in the last year more than 15,000 people involved in the Institute’s healthcare services have received training on patient safety issues. Likewise, since the creation of the Technical Coordination of Medical Risks, Quality and Patient Safety, close to 35 thousand healthcare workers have been trained.
Sergio Valencia explained that the Technical Coordination of Medical Risks, Quality and Patient Safety, in addition to developing mechanisms and strategies to reduce avoidable damage in clinical care and improve Patient Safety in the medical units of the three levels of care, also has among its functions to advise the medical units in order to contribute to their certification before the General Health Council.
