For the first time, Economía suspends an accreditation body to safeguard compliance with NOMs / @SE_mx >>>
#SE.- As part of the actions carried out by the Ministry of Economy to guarantee legal certainty and fight corruption in the application of Mexican Official Standards (NOM), for the first time, this agency temporarily suspended the authorization of Mexicana de Acreditación, A. C., MAAC, an entity that operated issuing accreditations in favor of organizations that evaluate the conformity of Mexican Official Standards, for failing to comply with the Quality Infrastructure Law.
Personnel from the General Directorate of Standards conducted surveillance visits to accreditation entities, with the objective of verifying compliance with their obligations, derived from the Quality Infrastructure Law and other applicable legal provisions; noticing that MAAC, which began operations since 2020, was failing to comply with the conditions and terms under which it was authorized to operate.
The purpose of the suspension is to guarantee that the accreditation activities and services to the Conformity Assessment Bodies that carry out specific activities to assess the conformity of Mexican Official Standards, Standards or International Standards are carried out in strict compliance with the legal framework in force and thus provide legal certainty to the users and members of the National Quality Infrastructure System.
An accreditation process that is not carried out correctly and in accordance with the applicable regulations may compromise the evaluation of compliance with NOMs and, consequently, affect the quality and safety of products, goods, processes and services regulated by such standards.
The Ministry of Economy reaffirms its commitment to protecting the public interest and strengthening the National Quality Infrastructure System, to ensure that all accredited agencies operate under the highest standards of quality and compliance with the regulatory framework, avoiding acts of corruption.
