#Tecámac, #Edoméx.- This Monday, the Weapons Exchange Program was launched in Tecámac, which will conclude on October 12, as part of the preventive actions to avoid its use, reduce violence and the commission of crimes in this municipal territory.
Mayor Rocio Miguel Hernandez highlighted that in 2023 the response of the people of Tecamaquenses was positive, since 99 handguns, two long guns and 687 cartridges were collected. “Each weapon exchanged is a life we can save and have less violence,” he said.
He said that this action is in addition to others that have been implemented in this municipal government to improve security, such as the 970 police elements in charge of security and 168 vehicle units, which translates into a guarded territory, also with the support of video cameras.
This program, in charge of the National Defense Secretariat in coordination with the state and municipal governments, is preventive and allows the coordination of the three levels of government, creating a solid link with the citizens, she added.
In her speech, the commissioner of the Civil Guard, María de Lourdes Cosío, said that in the first eight months of the year in Tecámac 13% of the registered crimes, such as injuries, homicides, vehicle, pedestrian, business and transport robbery, a firearm has been used to commit a crime.
In 6 percent of the cases of suicide, firearms have been used, therefore he urged to participate in this preventive program of Weapons Exchange.
