#IMSS.- As part of the actions to prevent illnesses during the upcoming cold season, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) will participate in the sectoral vaccination campaign against seasonal influenza and COVID-19, in which it will apply more than 20 million immunizations.

The vaccination campaign for the 2024-2025 winter season, explained the Coordinator of Medical Programs, Dr. Enrique Alcalá Martínez, will begin on October 15 and conclude on March 28, 2025. The objective of these two vaccines is to prevent severe forms and death from these diseases.

When a person does not receive these immunizations, he said, they can present serious complications such as pneumonia, respiratory difficulties, severe pulmonary affection and heart damage, which can lead to hospitalization.

He commented that in this operation, Social Security expects to apply 12.7 million doses of vaccine against influenza and 7.6 million against COVID-19.

The IMSS epidemiology specialist reminded that since this is a sectorial campaign, in which all health sector institutions participate, immunizations will be offered free of charge at First Level medical units, PrevenIMSS modules, daycare centers and at vaccination posts to be set up in shopping centers, among others, from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
