Sectur issues recommendations to tourists before the arrival of Hurricane Milton / @SECTUR_mx >>>

#SECTUR.- The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, calls on tourists, as well as the inhabitants of the destinations in the states where Hurricane Milton is expected to arrive, to follow the indications of federal, state and municipal authorities, in order to avoid damages or risks during their stay.

The head of the Secretariat of Tourism (Sectur) informed that, according to the National Water Commission (Conagua), at 12:00 hours this Monday, October 7, central Mexico time, the center of hurricane Milton, category 5, was located 130 kilometers (km) northwest of Celestun and 170 km west-northwest of Progreso, Yucatan, with maximum winds of 280 kilometers per hour (km/h) with gusts of 330 km/h and displacement towards the east at 15 km/h.

Authorities are maintaining a hurricane prevention zone from Celestún to Río Lagartos, Yucatán; a hurricane surveillance zone from Río Lagartos to Cabo Catoche, Yucatán, and from Campeche, Campeche, to Celestún, Yucatán; and a tropical storm prevention zone from Río Lagartos, Yucatán, to Cancún, Quintana Roo.

The Secretary of Tourism emphasized that she is in close communication with the state governors and reiterated her willingness to work hand in hand to assist national and international tourists, as well as tourism service providers that may require it.

In this regard, the General Directorate of Tourist Services Angeles Verdes recommends keeping informed of the Civil Protection protocols in the respective states and referred that during this Monday night, the center of the hurricane is expected to impact between Celestun and Progreso, and during today and tomorrow Tuesday, the cloud bands of Hurricane Milton will impact over the north of Campeche, Quintana Roo and Yucatan.
