#GobiernoDeMéxico.- The Constitutional President of the United Mexican States, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo pointed out that the constitutional reforms in energy matters, as well as those referring to the recovery of the railroads, strengthen the rights of the people of Mexico by making passenger trains, Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) public companies at the service of the State.
»These two reforms are deep and very important (…) It is important that this is known, which is part of what was promised, what we committed to in the campaign, a very important essence of what the Fourth Transformation represents, unlike the whole neoliberal period, which what they wanted was to privatize absolutely everything and turn everything into merchandise and abandon the rights of the people of Mexico», he pointed out in the morning press conference »Las mañaneras del pueblo» (The people’s mornings).
He reminded that, this very Wednesday, the energy reform is being discussed in the Chamber of Deputies, which implies changes in three articles of the Constitution: 25, 27 and 28, which will now open the way to the recovery of CFE and PEMEX, as public companies of the State.
What does the reform to be discussed today propose? It is that the companies return to being public companies; that is to say, their main function is not the market, but public service, which strengthens them».
He highlighted that the main objective of these reforms is to make Pemex and CFE even more productive and efficient companies; this, thanks to the fact that their preponderance is established, particularly in the case of electricity distribution by the CFE, which will continue with 54 percent of electricity generation, while private companies will still be able to distribute 46 percent of the electricity used at a national level, through planning and clear schemes in which the needs of the Mexican people are prioritized, as well as sustainability.
