Mexico recovers 18,000 km for public passenger rail service: SICT / @SICT_mx >>>
#SICT.- With the reform to Article 28 of the Constitution approved by legislators, the Mexican Government recovered 18,000 kilometers of railroad track for passenger train service, stated the head of the Railroad Transportation Regulatory Agency (ARTF), Andrés Lajous Loaeza.
He said that the current administration will put into service more than 3,000 km of passenger trains, which will be added to the 2,240 km built by the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Before President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, Andrés Lajous detailed that, with the constitutional amendment, the State recovers the passenger train service and public entities will be able to operate the 18 thousand kilometers of this modality, not only those that already exercise it currently.
He added that the passenger train service is elevated to constitutional rank as a priority area for national development, for which the Mexican Government will be able to provide this public service for the benefit of our country’s citizens.
Therefore, he stated that concessions for the public passenger transportation service may be issued to public companies, states, municipalities and parastatal entities of the Federal Public Administration (APF), as well as to private companies.
