#IMSS.- The Secretary of Health, David Kershenobich Stalnikowitz, inaugurated the National Influenza and COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign for the 2024-2025 Winter Season, accompanied by the general directors of public health institutions such as IMSS-Bienestar, Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) and Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (Issste).
During the opening ceremony, Kershenobich Stalnikowitz informed that the current federal administration is committed to Mexico producing more and more vaccines. He gave as an example the tetravalent influenza vaccine, which is already produced in Mexico.
These vaccines have been authorized not only by Mexico’s Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris), but also by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
Secretary Kershenobich pointed out that the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, is very clear about the importance of prevention and primary health care, as well as attention to comorbidities, which are considered in the design and implementation of the current national vaccination campaign.
He emphasized the importance of vaccination, pointing out that, thanks to it, we currently have a life expectancy almost twice as long as 100 years ago, and stressed that the current vaccination campaign is starting very early because the winter season has not yet begun and action is already being taken in order to anticipate the onset of infections.
For his part, the Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, Ramiro López Elizalde, informed that during this campaign more than 36 million doses of the influenza vaccine and approximately 22 million doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 will be applied throughout the country, in addition to promoting vaccination against pneumococcus for adults over 60 years of age.
