#EstadoDeMéxico.- Thanks to the promotion of safe, inclusive and sustainable mobility for pedestrians, the rehabilitation project for Avenida Carlos Hank González in Ecatepec, and the road redistribution of Isidro Fabela Boulevard in Toluca, are positioned as finalists in the “Better Streets for Mexico” contest, organized by the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) Mexico in collaboration with Cemex, a contest that has received more than 80 entries from private and governmental organizations from all over the country.

On November 5, a jury will select the winning proposals and, depending on the category, civil society and the public sector will receive recognition and technical advice to promote improvements in streets and public spaces.

Daniel Sibaja González, Secretary of State Mobility, commented that he is proud that the Carlos Hank González Avenue project in the municipality of Ecatepec will also be considered in this contest. He explained that the rehabilitation project is based on three fundamental axes: Active Mobility and Public Space; Public Transportation; and Gender Perspective.

The first axis proposes the establishment of pedestrian ramps, spaces for coexistence, safe crossings, improved signage and lighting; the Public Transportation axis establishes the need to reinforce the elements of the confined lane of the Mexibús, as well as the incorporation of bicycle parking lots.

In the area of Gender Perspective, the design of “safe corners” is contemplated, which will be marked in purple to prevent sexual harassment.
