#SanMiguelDeAllende, #Gto.- Traditions continue to gain strength with the support of the new Municipal Government, as in the 2024 edition of the traditional “Feria del Alfeñique”, where this season of the “Day of the Dead” is lived with San Miguel essence.

In this new edition from October 14 until next November 4, installed as every year and for decades in the Plaza de la Soledad, the general population can purchase the handmade sugar figures made with the ancestral process, with crunchy or soft texture and sweet and creamy flavors, called “alfeñiques”, ranging from skulls, fruits, vegetables, Mexican dishes, catrinas and other characters and miniature farm animals, which fill the establishments with color.

“They should visit us so that, mainly, the tradition will remain in the children, who have a lot of intelligence and do not forget it, and that they will inculcate them to the traditions of our people. It is a tradition that we all have a heart and we do not forget our loved ones and we have to celebrate them on a very special occasion,” said Silvia Rodríguez Cortés, traditional manufacturer.

For her part, Maricela Soria Domínguez, also an artisan merchant, emphasized: “So that they continue with the traditions, so that the traditions are not left behind, because this is of antiquity and we have to continue the traditions here in San Miguel”.

In the same sense, the representative of the “Antonio Bustamante” Alfeñique Association, Victor Hugo Chavez Gonzalez, added that: “(2:13) Everything is handmade, manual and wooden molds with which all the figures are made. (00:47) The importance is to preserve the traditions and not let the tradition of the Day of the Dead alfeñique die and we invite the general public, the communities, to visit us and thus preserve the traditions while they buy from us, we continue working to not let the traditions die”.
