Mexican government will consolidate passenger and freight trains: Lajous Loaeza / @SICT_mx >>>
#SICT.- With the approval yesterday of two thirds of the Congresses of the Federal Entities to the Reform of Article 28 of the Constitution, the Mexican State retakes the right to use railroads to provide passenger transportation services, stated the Head of the Railroad Transportation Regulatory Agency (ARTF), Andrés Lajous Loaeza.
Before President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the official highlighted that in this administration they started the studies of three rail projects: the Mexico-Pachuca Train (105 km) where people who make this route will have a 25 percent saving of their travel time, with 1 hour 20 minutes.
The Mexico-Queretaro Train (225 km), where studies began with the support of the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena). The time savings for those who make the trip on a daily basis will be around 40 percent (it will take 1 hour and 40 minutes).
Studies have also been carried out for the Mayan Train to operate as a freight train.
In a press conference, he emphasized that the purpose of the reform is to promote passenger train services from the State.
This will allow a reduction in travel time, greater safety, better quality of life, a reduction in the carbon footprint -more efficient than other modes of transportation-, and the provision of services to isolated communities, because during the privatization process they were connected to passenger trains that ceased to operate.
In the Treasury Room of the National Palace, the head of the ARTF said that the constitutional reform incorporates railroads in its text (both for passenger and freight transportation), and they are priority areas for national development in the terms of Article 25 of the Constitution.
