#GobiernoDeMéxico.- With the aim of joining efforts to build peace, guarantee access to drinking water and enforce the constitutional rights of indigenous peoples throughout the country, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo led the National Municipal Meeting, in which mayors, mayors, governors and governors from all over the country, as well as from all political parties, participated.
“This Meeting we are holding is historic, unique, unprecedented, perhaps for one reason: I was also a mayor, I was mayor of Tlalpan, the largest mayor of Mexico City, with the greatest extension; and I know what the mayors of our country experience every day, the difficulties they have in terms of budget, in terms of the extension they govern, the diversity of their territories. And the objective of this meeting is that we work together for the good of their municipalities, for the good of Mexico,” he said.
During the meeting, an agreement was signed for the creation of the Indigenous Component of the Contribution Fund for Social Infrastructure (FAIS) for the benefit of 13 thousand communities, which will guarantee that for the first time indigenous peoples will directly receive resources from the Federal Expenditure Budget, as currently established in Article 2 of the Political Constitution, which recognizes the full rights of indigenous communities.
“We want you to know it, that you help us, that you participate in this whole process, that we hold more than 13 thousand assemblies directly with the indigenous communities, and that the resources are delivered directly and that it is decided in the communities themselves what they are to be used for”, he added.
