#IMSS.- The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), through the Oncology Care Coordination, is preparing a new Specific Coordination Agreement for the Unilateral Provision of Services for the Diagnosis and Follow-up of Breast Cancer and Acute Childhood Leukemia, through biomarker studies between the IMSS and the Decentralized Public Body (OPD) IMSS-Bienestar.
The representative of the IMSS Sectorial Strategic Integration Division, Dr. Rocio Ofelia Uc Coyoc, said that the aim is to provide more timely medical attention to cancer patients without the need for them to be referred to medical units outside the entity where they live.
He emphasized that the main objective of this agreement, which is currently in the process of being formalized, is to promote the timely diagnosis and follow-up of acute leukemia in children and breast cancer in women, through laboratory and biomarker studies through the Centro de Investigación Biomédica de Oriente (CIBIOR) based in the state of Puebla.
The agreement will allow CIBIOR to offer specialized services to OPD IMSS-Bienestar, an institution that provides medical services to people without social security in the federalized entities, he added.
He added that, unlike previous agreements, this one will have a national application, which will allow OPD IMSS-Bienestar medical units to send samples to CIBIOR of the Social Security for specialized diagnostics and follow-up.
He mentioned that the results of immunohistochemistry tests will be delivered within 24 hours and for phenotyping within a period of no more than five days, thus guaranteeing a quick and efficient response.
