Mexico participates in the public hearing before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights on the case of “Ascencio Rosario et al. vs. / @SRE_mx >>>

#SRE.- A delegation of the Mexican State, composed of the Ministries of the Interior, Foreign Affairs and National Defense, as well as the Veracruz Institute of Access to Information, participated today in the public hearing of the case “Ascencio Rosario and another vs. Mexico” before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, in San José, Costa Rica.

During the hearing, the legal representatives of the victims, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the Mexican State were heard.

The Mexican State highlighted the seriousness of the events that led to the death of Mrs. Ernestina Ascencio in 2007 and acknowledged its international responsibility for the violation of judicial guarantees and the right to health.

Likewise, as an obligation and conviction of the Government of Mexico, it was agreed to continue with the investigation to determine the causes that led to her death without ruling out any line of investigation or hypothesis, which will be developed with a gender and intercultural perspective, consistent with the priority given by the Mexican government to the welfare of indigenous communities.

The Mexican State reiterates its unwavering commitment to the defense and respect for human rights, particularly the rights of women, and will continue to implement concrete actions to achieve this objective.
