#SRE.- To follow up on the strategy for the protection and legal defense of Mexican nationals in the United States, Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente held a virtual meeting today with the Mexican Embassy and the 53 consulates in that country.
After reiterating that Mexican nationals are not and will not be alone, Chancellor De la Fuente pointed out the solid coordination of Mexico’s consular network, which has risen to the occasion and shown institutional capacity to anticipate the challenges that arise for the attention of the Mexican community in that country.
He emphasized that the consular network, following the instructions of President Claudia Sheinbaum, provides assistance to Mexicans and is granting the legal advice that has been required.
De la Fuente instructed the consuls to provide close, continuous and diligent assistance and guidance in all our representations, as well as to follow up on compliance with due process and protocols that guarantee respect for the human rights of our nationals.
The meeting reviewed trends in the repatriation of Mexicans at the border, the operations of U.S. immigration authorities, as well as the laws and administrative measures that may affect the Mexican community.
In this regard, he emphasized that close contact with Mexican communities is fundamental, and therefore the work of consulates must be carried out through a permanent dialogue with Mexican nationals.
