#BenitoJuárez, #CDMX.- The mayor of Benito Juarez, Luis Mendoza filed a complaint with the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office against whoever is responsible for the alleged crimes of robbery, injury and damage to official vehicles, after an operation to recover public space in the vicinity of the Mitikah Plaza and Centro Coyoacan.
“My only intention is to work for the neighbors of Benito Juarez who are the ones who brought me here; I was threatened, beaten and even robbed of my personal belongings. I am here to tell you that order and security in Benito Juárez are the main principles of the mayor’s office. I will not stop!
The mayor made it clear that he will make the principle of order and security prevail in the mayor’s office, because first and foremost is the tranquility of the neighbors who filed several complaints about abuses and criminal acts committed in the area, ranging from illegal operation of the stalls, to the alleged sale of drugs at the retail level.
At around 2:00 p.m., the operation began on Mayorazgo Street where street personnel would carry out the verification and removal of street vendors, who began to remove their belongings without major problems. Later on, a group of the so-called Asociación de Comerciantes Unidos de Oriente (Acuos) organization showed up and assaulted the mayor’s office personnel, inciting violence, hitting and threatening the various public officials, as well as causing damage to the official units.
Despite the acts of violence, the recovery of public space was achieved with the removal of more than 40 semi-fixed stalls, which represented a risk in terms of civil protection and invaded pedestrian areas.
Luis Mendoza reiterated his commitment to safeguard the safety of the neighbors of Benito Juarez who are threatened by this type of criminal organizations.
“I am not giving up, we will go ahead with the recovery of public spaces; that is why I filed a complaint before the Public Prosecutor’s Office, in defense of all the officials who do their job, do their work day by day to put an end to the criminals in this city, so we can live more peacefully in this city and especially in Benito Juarez,” he concluded.
