#BajaCalifornia.- To strengthen the security and tranquility of families in Baja California, Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda announced that the state will join the national program “Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace”, promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, which seeks to address the causes of violence and promote safer environments.
During her “Miércoles de Mañanera” conference, the state governor highlighted that this voluntary disarmament will allow the population to exchange firearms, explosives and ammunition in exchange for economic incentives, without investigations or legal repercussions.
“Thanks to this initiative, Baja Californians will be able to exchange from handguns to long arms and also high caliber devices, receiving economic support proportional to the type of weapons surrendered. With this strategy we are joining forces, we are coordinating to prevent weapons from getting into the wrong hands and also to promote a culture of peace and attention to the causes in each municipality,” he said.
Brigadier General Ángel Primitivo Flores González, Commander of the Ensenada Garrison, explained that the program will be implemented at a national level with the objective of preventing and reducing high impact crimes and other incidents related to firearms.
He informed that the economic incentives will vary according to the type of weapons surrendered. For small arms, the amounts could be three, five and seven thousand pesos, while for long arms they could be 13, 15 or 20 thousand pesos, depending on the condition of the weapon.
There will be modules to carry out these gun exchanges in public and open places such as educational centers, parks and shopping malls.
