#CuautitlánIzcalli, #StateOfMexico – The Government of Cuautitlán Izcalli held the water forum called «Recovering our water heritage», in which specialists exchanged perspectives, studies and experiences about the bodies of water in this municipality; a space that was inaugurated by Mayor Daniel Serrano.

Accompanied by the Director of Environment and Sustainability, Lily Chávez Campuzano, the Municipal President highlighted the importance of generating these meetings between those involved in the defense of local water bodies.

«It is important, above all, for young people to be able to reflect on water from a different perspective. The topic should be approached with a focus that transcends borders, that allows us to have clarity about what is happening with the bodies of water, a vision of the basin, rather than territorial limits.
It allows us to have clarity about what is happening with the bodies of water, a vision of the basin, rather than territorial limits,» said Mayor Daniel Serrano, during this event that took place at the TecMilenio University.

For their part, the specialists addressed the current state of the five municipal water bodies: Axotlán Lagoon, La Piedad Lagoon, Espejo de los Lirios, Cuautitlán River and the Lago de Guadalupe Dam, which face a series of challenges, including irregular wastewater discharges, the presence of garbage, as well as the resulting water pollution.

While the Axotlán lagoon has an organization in defense of the natural space and has faced several attempts of illegal appropriation by private individuals, the Piedad lagoon is a space that receives high volumes of wastewater from Lomas de Cuautitlán and has three wastewater treatment plants out of operation.

The experts and the representatives of the Municipal Government of Cuautitlán Izcalli agreed on the need to continue joining efforts not only to raise awareness among the population about water issues, but also to consolidate comprehensive projects for the recovery of these bodies of water so that they can soon recover their central role in the preservation of the flora, fauna and sustainability of the Valley of Mexico region.
