#ISSSTE.- The Querétaro General Hospital of the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), headed by General Director Martí Batres Guadarrama, carried out a multi-organ donation for the second time this year, including two corneas and musculoskeletal tissue. This donation was supported by the compassionate support of the family of a 54-year-old patient, who sadly died in the unit.

The head of the Organ and Tissue Donation Coordination at the ISSSTE General Hospital in Querétaro, Juan Arreola Luna, reported that the corneas were sent to the «Lic. Adolfo López Mateos» Regional Hospital, while the musculoskeletal tissue was transferred to a tissue bank, both located in Mexico City, which is responsible for the proper processing and treatment of these types of donations.

«The bank is responsible for processing, storing, and distributing them to ISSSTE hospitals.» First, they perform bacteriological tests on the tissues and preserve them in good condition to supply them to hospitals according to their needs,” he explained.

He added that before the transplant, medical personnel from various disciplines at the ISSSTE General Hospital in Querétaro perform the required studies, histocompatibility cross-matching, and other clinical examinations.

The ISSSTE, which continues to strengthen itself as part of the Second Stage of the Fourth Transformation led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, is calling on the public to join the culture of donation, which represents a new beginning for thousands of people.
