The general director of the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), Martí Batres Guadarrama, led, along with the Secretary of Welfare of the Government of Mexico, Ariadna Montiel Reyes, the delivery of financial resources to the treasurers of the Health and Welfare Committees (COSABI) of the «La Clínica es Nuestra» (Our Clinic) Program, which stands out for promoting participatory democracy for the improvement and equipping of the Institute’s 562 first-level medical units.
«More and more resources are being used directly by the people. There are 562 clinics here. (…) That is democracy and is part of the positive transformations taking place in this Fourth Transformation,» he shared.
At the ISSSTE complex located in Buenavista, Martí Batres emphasized the importance of community participation in deciding which projects to invest in. The 335 million pesos allocated by the Government of Mexico, through IMSS Bienestar, to implement «La Clínica es Nuestra» (Our Clinic) at the ISSSTE.
“People participate, which is a virtue in itself, but, in addition, by participating they fall in love with what they do and defend and care for it. (…) Maybe the government says, ‘These things are lacking here and that’s what we’re going to do,’ or ‘We’re going to do the same type of work for all the clinics,’ even though each clinic has different problems. So, through this program, we make the right choice because it’s the people who decide what to do,” he emphasized.
The director general highlighted the presence of representatives from the Committees of Puebla, Tlaxcala, Veracruz, Michoacán, Hidalgo, Morelos, the State of Mexico, and Mexico City, who were given the corresponding resources and asked to use them promptly to begin implementing the program, in compliance with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s instructions to counteract the deterioration of medical units.
