#GobiernoDeMéxico.- In fulfillment of a campaign promise and in the context of Children’s Day, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo launched, via a live broadcast, the construction of five Child Education and Care Centers (CECI) of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, as part of the National Care System, which plans to build 200 CECIs throughout the country.
“The women who work, especially before, but now also in the maquiladora industry during the campaign, what they told me is, first, the working conditions, and second, the possibility of leaving their children in a safe place. There are many very sad stories of mothers who, because they work, had to leave their children at home alone from a very young age. So now, what we want is for no child to be left alone at home, for them to have a space for care and education from early childhood,” she stated.
She added that the construction of the five Childcare and Education Centers is part of the National Care System, fulfilling her campaign promise to serve the women workers in the Ciudad Juárez maquila factories. They expressed the importance of having safe spaces for their children.
“I stated in my 100 points that we would support women in the maquila factories and agricultural day laborers as a priority. We are going to San Quintín so that, in addition to strengthening schools, public transportation, economic formality, and working conditions, we will also build CECIs there. We will move forward little by little. The most important thing is that there is already a model, which is for Social Security for beneficiaries, and that state DIFs can be incorporated so that those without social security can also leave their children there,” she added.
From Ciudad Juárez, through a link to «La mañanera del pueblo,» the director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zoé Robledo, along with municipal authorities, led the laying of the cornerstone of the CECI (Center for the Protection of Children and Adolescents in Ciudad Juárez). The CECI will be located in the Las Gladiolas neighborhood on a 2,408 square meter (m2) lot donated by the municipal government. The CECI will have a total construction area of 1,382 m2, an investment of 46 million pesos (mdp), and its construction will generate 63 direct jobs.
