#SICT.- The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) and the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) signed a Collaboration Agreement for the construction of hospitals, Family Medicine Units (UFM), and Childcare and Education Centers (CECI) in various states across the country.
The event was led by the head of the SICT, Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina; the general director of the Mexican Social Security Institute, Zoé Robledo Aburto; the head of the Urban Infrastructure and Public Space Projects Unit (UPIUEP), Román Meyer Falcón; and the Undersecretary of Infrastructure, Juan Carlos Fuentes Orrala.
This collaboration will be strategic for the comprehensive development of the Ciudad Salud project, which includes the construction of a large-scale hospital complex. Its proper implementation requires not only the construction of medical units but also the urban infrastructure that connects them and provides them with functionality.
Secretary Esteva Medina emphasized that the signing of this agreement aligns with the vision reflected in a quote by Hungarian journalist and writer Sándor Márai: «Man makes a place his own not only with the pick and shovel, but also with what he thinks as he picks and shovels.»
In this regard, he mentioned that «what we think about when we pick and shovel, in the Fourth Transformation and in the vision of Mexican Humanism, is to recognize our origins, reduce inequalities, and achieve greater justice, and all of this is reflected in this architectural design.»
He added that this vision of returning to the use of materials such as brick will be implemented in other projects to the extent possible, because construction processes must be found that prioritize job creation, the vision of social justice, sustainability, and lower energy consumption through bioclimatic design.
