The State Government of Mexico signs agreements to conserve, protect, and improve the environment in the capital of Mexico / @Edomex >>>

#EstadoDeMéxico.- With the aim of promoting and developing activities to conserve and protect natural resources, the Government of the State of Mexico, through the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (SMAyDS), signed a Framework Agreement for Environmental Coordination with the City of Toluca.

This agreement was signed by Alhely Rubio Arronis, Secretary of the Environment of the state, and Ricardo Moreno Bastida, Mayor of Toluca, to prevent and combat environmental pollution, promote a culture of nature protection, environmental improvement, the rational use of natural resources, and generate climate change adaptation and mitigation measures, among other actions.

Three additional agreements were also signed. The first is for the Development of the Toluca Local Ecological Planning Program, to guide land use and orderly urban development, promoting the sustainable use of the municipality’s resources.

The second agreement, for the Comprehensive Management of Urban Solid Waste, will promote the proper disposal of waste generated in the municipality, with the goal of removing trash from streets, bodies of water, ravines, and parks.

The third agreement relates to Citizen Consultation and Participation, through which the process will be established to integrate and operate the Municipal Council for the Protection of Biodiversity and Sustainable Development (Comprobides) and the State System for Responding to Citizen Complaints on Environmental Matters (ECOTEL).

As part of this event, the «Biobox» machines were presented. Their main objective is for residents to deposit waste such as PET and aluminum for recycling, fulfilling the «Zero Waste» vision. This action corresponds to an additional Consultation Agreement that the SMAyDS has with the company Innovation Box Group, S.A. DE C.V.

Alhely Rubio Arronis highlighted the need for collaborative mechanisms that aid decision-making to minimize the potential negative effects of inadequate waste disposal, under the concept of a circular economy.
