#SICT.- The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, affirmed that executing public works should not be understood solely as a sum of numbers, but as the materialization of convictions and a comprehensive vision of development. In this regard, he announced that between 2025 and 2026, 612 million pesos will be allocated to priority road infrastructure projects in Baja California Sur.
During the presentation of «Priority Projects in Baja California Sur,» led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, Esteva Medina highlighted the projects underway in the state, such as the Fonatur Roundabout Vehicular Underpass in Los Cabos, whose construction has already begun; the modernization of the La Paz-Ciudad Insurgentes highway; the repair of bridges damaged by natural phenomena; and the strengthening of the Highway Conservation Program.
Regarding the vehicle crossing at the Fonatur roundabout, he explained that it is a 1.5-kilometer project with an investment of 450 million pesos. The project, developed with the support of the Mexican Institute of Transportation (IMT), will significantly improve east-west traffic flow and reduce wait times, which currently reach up to a kilometer during rush hour. Additionally, it includes 17 signalized pedestrian crossings, a bike path of more than 800 meters, and the restoration of 24,000 square meters of green areas.
“This is not just a road project; it is an urban intervention with a sustainable vision that restores the environment and improves the quality of life. It’s not about building for the sake of building, but about solving problems with a social and environmental focus,” he emphasized.
