#SICT.- With 20 paving trains (specialized machinery), the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) will carry out maintenance work on more than 15,000 kilometers of the toll-free highway network during the current administration, stated the Director General of Highway Maintenance, David Omar Calderón Hallal.
He explained that the SICT is in the process of acquiring 30 paving trains, following a bidding process. 10 will be allocated to various entities in the country, including the State of Mexico, and 20 will be used by the Ministry for the maintenance of federal highways, both trunk (road axes where 80 percent of freight travels) and basic highways.
The benefit of having this machinery is that it can be quickly and immediately available to service the roads, even in emergency situations.
Within the framework of the IV National Transportation Infrastructure Forum, organized by the College of Civil Engineers of Mexico, Calderón explained that approximately 1.4 billion pesos will be invested in the 30 paving trains; 10 were awarded yesterday following a bidding process, and the remaining 20 are following the same procedure.
The 10 corresponding to the states are expected to be in their respective states by the first week of July.
The Secretary of the SICT, Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, has emphasized that the distribution of the first package of 10 paving trains is part of the delivery commitments to the different states: two for the State of Mexico (for a couple of municipalities in the State of Mexico) and one each for Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Campeche, Chihuahua, Veracruz, Guerrero, Baja California Sur, and Colima.
