#SRE, #México .- Mexico is actively participating in the Third United Nations Conference on Oceans (UNOC-3), held in Nice, France, to present the actions being carried out for the protection of the oceans and their biodiversity within the framework of the Ecological and Environmental Humanist Policy of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
The central purpose of the Conference is to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG14), related to the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources, as well as to mobilize concrete commitments to reverse the loss of marine biodiversity and move towards a blue, fair and resilient economy.
Within this framework, Mexico, whose delegation is headed by the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources, Alicia Bárcena, and the Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Enrique Ochoa, will present three key voluntary commitments:
The publication of the updated National Policy for the Sustainable Management of Mexico’s Seas and Coasts (PNMSMC); the implementation of the National Environmental Restoration Program, with emphasis on the restoration of mangroves, coral reefs, coastal dunes and island ecosystems; and the launch of Mexico’s National Strategy for the Cleanup and Conservation of Beaches and Coasts 2025-2030, aimed at preventing and reversing marine pollution from an environmental perspective.
