Health Secretariat highlights benefits of healthy diet and physical activity to maintain good metabolic health

#SecretaríaDeSalud, #México.- Eating a balanced diet and engaging in regular physical activity promotes good metabolic health, which translates into greater energy, better mood, strengthened immune system and lower risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol, said the Secretary of Health of the Government of Mexico, David Kershenobich.

During the morning conference: “Las mañaneras del pueblo”, led by the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, on behalf of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the head of the Ministry of Health explained that metabolic health involves the optimal functioning of the body’s processes that transform sugars, fats and proteins into energy.

He highlighted that several factors can negatively affect metabolic health, such as excessive consumption of ultra-processed foods, sugars, refined flours, lack of sleep and physical inactivity.

He detailed that metabolic health is evaluated based on five indicators:

Healthy waist circumference

Blood pressure within normal ranges

Adequate cholesterol levels

Normal triglyceride levels

Blood glucose (sugar) within normal parameters.
