#SecretaríaDeSalud, #México.– In the morning conference: “Las mañaneras del pueblo”, led by the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the Secretary of Health, David Kershenobich, presented an update on the measles outbreak in the country and the reinforcement actions being carried out to contain it.
The Secretary of Health informed that, so far, 2,942 cases of measles have been registered nationwide. Meanwhile, the incidence rate, which reached 69.4, is currently 2.21 cases per 100,000 people.
He indicated that the majority is concentrated in Chihuahua, with 2,752 registered cases, which has allowed focusing actions in that region. Therefore, the following key actions are being carried out:
Expansion of vaccination: now adults up to 49 years of age can also be vaccinated.
Sufficient supply: there are currently 4.5 million doses of MMR vaccine and 1.4 million doses of DUAL vaccine available.
Inter-institutional coordination: on July 2, a national meeting will be held in Chihuahua with health authorities from the 32 states, national and international specialists, and personnel from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), with the aim of reinforcing strategies and accelerating containment of the outbreak.
To conclude, Secretary Kershenobich called for joint responsibility: «We must not be overconfident. If you have daughters, sons, or if you are under 49 years old and are not vaccinated, go to the health center. The vaccine is there, it is safe, free and it is the best way to protect us all».
