The goal is to generate access to housing, housing as a right for Mexicans: President Claudia Sheinbaum / @Claudiashein @GobiernoMX >>>
FederalGovernment, #Mexico.- The Government of Mexico, through the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development (Sedatu), reported that, through the Housing for Well-being program, 1,564,000 people have benefited from loan write-offs, forgiveness, and liquidations: 149,000 from the Housing Fund of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (FOVISSSTE) and 1,415,000 from the National Workers’ Housing Fund Institute (INFONAVIT).
In addition, 6.8 million people will benefit thanks to the increase in the six-year construction goal from 1.2 to 1.8 million new homes: 1.2 million from INFONAVIT; 100,000 from FOVISSSTE; and 500,000 from the National Housing Commission (CONAVI).
President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that the Housing for Well-being program is exceptional because it aims to recognize housing as a right for Mexicans.
«These homes are close to workplaces, cities, and communities; they’re not like they used to be, built far away. Second, they’re 60 square meters; they’re decent homes. And third, they’re affordable. This barbarity, committed during the neoliberal period, was to grant unpayable loans: a person would take out a loan with Infonavit and never pay it back, almost like the Fobaproa, only on an individual basis, and they never pay off that loan. So, in addition to lowering rates, we’re also making deductions so people can afford the homes they already acquired in the past,» she emphasized during the morning press conference, «Las mañaneras del pueblo» (The People’s Morning Conferences).
