Seniors, a pillar of development in Benito Juárez: Mayor Luis Mendoza / @LuisMendozaBJ @BJAlcaldia
#CiudadDeMéxico, #México.-Mayor Luis Mendoza emphasized that the guidance and support that senior citizens have provided to the district have been fundamental to building a better society in Benito Juárez.
«This municipality wouldn’t be where it is without the guidance, order, and support of all of you. From the Benito Juárez municipality, you have guided many generations, and that’s why the development that has occurred here in the community of Benito Juárez is thanks to you, I have no doubt,» the mayor stated to the residents.
The Benito Juárez municipality is one of the districts with the largest senior population; 14.2% of its inhabitants are part of this segment. Therefore, the Luis Mendoza administration will continue to generate initiatives to benefit them, because reaching old age doesn’t have to mean the end of a person’s active life.
“It’s so important to celebrate, but we shouldn’t forget the true goal, which should be to support them with things that benefit them, like these types of fairs, where we can have recreational spaces, because retirees or people who are working from home also want to continue living, continue doing things. I will continue to recognize and support those who have made Benito Juárez continue to be the best borough to live in,” Mendoza emphasized.
In this regard, Elizabeth Riander, a student at CECAM Cumbres, emphasized the importance of having these spaces where people can socialize, which gives them motivation and joy to enjoy this stage of life.
“I think everyone should sign up for some of these events. It would be great to motivate older adults. I love it because they become very participatory, very happy. Thank you to the mayor’s office for these events. May they continue to promote them, because the truth is, people are participatory, and we enjoy them.”
For his part, Sergio Carrillo, who takes painting classes at CECAM Cumbres, stated, «Fortunately, we’re blessed because seniors didn’t have anywhere to study or go; now we have plenty of activities. I’m very grateful because I had the opportunity to present my paintings; I’m a visual artist.»
