Mexico and Japan hold the 14th Meeting of the Committee for the Improvement of the Business Environment / @m_ebrard @SE_mx >>>
#SecretaryOf Economy, #México.- The 14th Meeting of the Committee for the Improvement of the Business Environment (CIBE) was held today. This mechanism is provided for in Chapter 13 of the Agreement to Strengthen the Economic Partnership between Mexico and Japan (AAEMJ), which this year commemorates two decades since its entry into force.
The CIBE represents an institutionalized and unique forum within Mexico’s trade agreements, promoting dialogue between the public and private sectors of both countries, with the goal of monitoring and improving conditions that impact the business environment and strengthening bilateral cooperation and economic relations.
The meeting was chaired by the Undersecretary of Foreign Trade, Luis Rosendo Gutiérrez Romano, and the Parliamentary Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Arfiya Eri. During the meeting, government and business representatives from Mexico and Japan exchanged views on issues of common interest, aimed at facilitating investment, promoting trade, and consolidating productive integration between the two nations.
Likewise, concerns raised by the productive sectors were followed up on issues such as sanitary and phytosanitary measures, infrastructure, public safety, taxation, and customs, among others.
Japan has established itself as a strategic partner for Mexico. In 2024, it was Mexico’s sixth-largest trading partner globally, with bilateral trade reaching $23.648 billion. Furthermore, Japanese foreign direct investment totaled $4.285 billion, consolidating Japan’s position as one of the main sources of investment in key sectors such as automotive, electronics, and manufacturing.
