Café Bienestar is fair trade for the benefit of the people of Mexico: President Claudia Sheinbaum / @Claudiashein @GobinoMX >>>
#FederalGovernment, #Mexico.- The Government of Mexico, through Food for Well-being, presented Café Bienestar, which is being collected from 6,646 small producers (44% women and 56% men) in Oaxaca, Puebla, Veracruz, and La Montaña de Guerrero. It comes in three sizes: 50 grams (g) for 35 pesos; 90 g for 65 pesos; and 205 g for 110 pesos, which will be sold in Tiendas Bienestar.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that Café Bienestar represents fair trade for the benefit of Mexicans, while also promoting agroecological agriculture through a healthy product made from 100 percent Mexican coffee, the profits of which directly benefit communities.
“We want to reach 100 percent of La Montaña producers, because that will guarantee healthy coffee in the Tiendas Bienestar, but it means poverty reduction, it means even greater well-being for coffee producers. So it’s a very good program. And besides, it’s 100 percent coffee. We’re not going to mention other brands, but if you read the content of other brands, they’re not 100 percent coffee; they have many other ingredients, many even contain sugars. So, we’re presenting Café del Bienestar, fair trade for the benefit of the people of Mexico,” he stated during the morning press conference, “La mañanera del pueblo” (The People’s Morning).
He explained that with Café Bienestar, the goal is for producers to receive fair payments through Food for Well-being, allowing them to return to planting and living off their harvest.
“Many agricultural producers are dedicated to growing coffee. What do they do with the coffee they grow? Now, with Sembrando Vida, they process it and have access to other markets. But what’s happening now? 40 percent of these producers buy the Alimentación para el Bienestar coffee at a good price, allowing them to live—that is, to grow and live off that crop,” he added.
