#MexicanSocialSecurityInstitute#Mexico.-  Through its Family Medicine Units and hospitals, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) contributes to the prevention and control of dengue fever with health promotion, epidemiological surveillance, and timely medical care.

Through information campaigns aimed at beneficiaries and the general population, the elimination of mosquito breeding sites, the use of repellents, and other personal protection measures are encouraged, stated Dr. Adriana Josefina Toriz Saldaña, head of the Epidemiological Surveillance Division of Communicable Diseases.

She indicated that dengue fever is a viral disease acquired through the bite of infected mosquitoes, primarily Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. It can be asymptomatic and even progress to severe disease with organ complications. It is not transmitted from person to person.

Dr. Josefina Toriz noted that although there is no specific medication to eliminate the virus, the treatment provided by Social Security medical services is based on symptomatic and supportive care, with the goal of preventing complications and treating symptoms in accordance with the Medical Care Protocol for Cases of Dengue Virus Infection.
