#FederalGovernment, #Mexico.- The Mexican Government, through the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), presented the 2026 Economic Package, which is characterized by its humanistic nature, as it guarantees all Welfare Programs and proposes an increase in health, education, housing, security, and public investment, as well as a bailout for Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex).
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that the 2026 Economic Package is responsible, guarantees all the rights of Mexicans, and includes Welfare Programs, taking into account the increase in beneficiaries and inflation. It also continues to support Pemex to clean up its finances from the corrupt debt incurred by former presidents Felipe Calderón and Enrique Peña Nieto.
“Number 1. Guaranteed welfare programs. Number 2. Increased investment in health. It’s been reported on social media that ‘it’s decreasing,’ false; it’s increasing. Where is the increase primarily? In the IMSS Bienestar (Mexican Social Security Institute). If we add up everything related to health—the Ministry of Health, IMSS Bienestar, #IMSS, and #ISSSTE—it’s increasing. Education is increasing, the education budget is increasing. Housing is increasing. Public investment in trains, highways, and water is increasing. So, that’s the keynote: all the rights of Mexicans are guaranteed, and at the same time, investment is guaranteed,” he stated during the morning press conference, “Las mañaneras del pueblo (The People’s Morning Press Conference).
He pointed out that contrary to neoliberal logic, the proposed budget views health, education, housing, and security as investments that provide well-being to Mexicans.
Regarding revenue, the Federal Chief Executive clarified that neither the Value Added Tax (VAT) nor the Income Tax (ISR) will be increased, but rather that the goal is to increase revenue by amending the Customs Law to combat any traces of corruption; protecting the textile, footwear, and automotive industries to increase domestic production as part of Plan Mexico; and implementing restrictions on invoicing companies to combat tax evasion and increase revenue collection.
