#FederalGovernment, #Mexico.- The Mexican Government, through the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), reported that the education budget is one of the areas with the largest increase in the 2026 Economic Package, with an investment of more than 1.1 trillion pesos (bp), representing an increase of 7.1 percent in nominal terms and 3.4 percent in real terms compared to 2025.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that this educational investment will translate into more resources for basic, upper secondary, and higher education, infrastructure, and scholarships, with the goal of ensuring that all students receive scholarships from the first year of primary school to the third year of high school.
“They used to say ‘spending on education’; we call it ‘educational investment,’ investment in education, because it’s not an expense, it’s an investment. So, this year we’re allocating more resources to basic education, more resources to upper secondary education, and more resources to higher education; more resources to scholarships and more resources to improving educational infrastructure, to schools. That’s the complete program,” he stated during the morning press conference, “Las mañaneras del pueblo” (The People’s Morning Press Conference).
He explained that the expansion of the new Rita Cetina Universal Scholarship for Basic Education coverage for 2026 will be implemented in two phases: first, to grades 4, 5, and 6; and the end of 2026 will be with grades 1, 2, and 3.
