Mauricio Tabe Denounces New Federal «Robbery» and Calls on Congress to Defend $13 Billion for Municipalities / @mauriciotabe @AlcaldiaMHmx
#AlcaldíaMiguelHidalgo, #México.-The Mayor of Miguel Hidalgo, Mauricio Tabe, issued a forceful call to federal legislators to stop what he called a «robbery and confiscation» of essential resources for the country’s municipalities. The complaint focuses on the Federal Government’s attempt to again cut 13 billion pesos allocated to local governments by 2026. The mayor speaks out in defense of budgetary autonomy.
Tabe indicated that correcting and amending this «centralist plan» is entirely in the hands of the representatives who make up the Congress of the Union. He pointed out that the federal government lacks the authority to cut the Municipal Social Infrastructure Contribution Fund (FAISMUN), a resource that has been «trampled to the detriment of the people» in previous years. The exercise of counterbalance in the legislature is now crucial.
The President of the National Association of Mayors of the PAN party explained that the real impact is not only 13 billion pesos for the next cycle, but that the cumulative loss of funds amounts to 20 billion pesos when considering the loss of purchasing power. Mauricio Tabe pointed out that the cuts are allocated to the Ministry of Welfare and not to municipal social infrastructure, and that the same plan is intended to be applied for 2026.
«We have a significant loss of capacity to solve problems due to the cuts in federal resources, and we are making this point and denouncing this dispossession by the federal government because we still have time to stop it,» the mayor firmly stated. Tabe concluded that «Defending municipalism means defending the most heartfelt demands of the people» in the face of the attempt to place the budget «at the service of the president.»
